The single-named NYC hipster, designer & AIDS fundraiser just happened to be at Maxfield in Los Angeles doing a little shopping, when one of their buyers spotted his diamond knuckleduster rings which covered three fingers per hand. Asked where they came from, Waris explained that he had designed them - and promptly got a order. The House of Waris was born.
Waris Ahluwalia’s obsession with birds began at the Raphael Hotel in Paris — in the bathroom of Room 502, to be exact. “I fell in love with a bird on the wallpaper,” he says. (The hotel made a cameo in his friend Wes Anderson’s prequel to “The Darjeeling Limited.) “And I realized that birds could be the perfect way to explore the fine, detailed work of enameling and pavé.” He designed six avian jewels under his House of Waris label and named them after famous love-seeking literary characters. Liberté, the diamond and gold peacock.
